Root Unable to Root Prevail 2 Using all available Methods

bfldworker

Android Enthusiast
I think I might have missed something. My Son has a Boost Mobile Branded Samgung Galaxy Prevail 2 (SPH-M840). It has Android 4.1.2 installed. I have tried rooting this phone with Framaroot 1.5.1 to 1.9.3 (I have tried both the Gandolf and Aradorn exploits, I get error #7-#13), Kangroot, SRSroot, I haven't tried Onceclickroot because there is both a .com and .org and that throws red flags up at me that one may be a hoax site set to brick or do other dastardly things.

Any thoughts? Because I am a the point to get a Young Priest, a old Priest, a Virgin and a 5th of Grey Goose and let the good times roll!

Whats your Baseband Version & your Hardware Version? Tbeycan be found in Settings, About Device all the way at the bottom. Just in case you didn't know! But yah please let me know that info & I may have a idea.

Being my son has the phone at the moment all I can tell you is that it has the latest version of Android 4.1.2

I have same problem and drained from trying EVERY method out there. I use Boost on my prevail. What can I do now?

No, none of the methods stated that. Will try.
Btw, the instructions aren't posted in the op, so.

Place the superuser.zip on your sdcard

Download this version of Odin:
http://www.mediafire.com/?sow0ix1616gwv7n

Extract to your desktop.

Run Odin as administrator

Boot the phone into downloading mode and connect to pc.

You should see the phone show up in the com port

Select pda

Select the clockwork mod file you downloaded.

Make sure auto reboot is unchecked

Click start

Wait until Odin says successful

Pull the battery

Replace the battery and boot into recovery.
(hold volume up + power until you see the recovery screen)

If you see the boot animation, pull the battery again and try again.

Once in recovery, using the volume keys to move, and power to select:
-install zip from sdcard
-choose zip from sdcard
-select the superuser.zip you download
-select yes

One it says successful, select reboot system now... And your done

That worked. Thank you!

Thanks for your help Lordvincent 90! I did what you said and it worked.

I wanted to mention that when I first tried to "choose zip from sdcard" the file wasn't there. The file was in the root folder of my micro sd card, I pulled the card out and double checked it on another android device,) but when I went back and tried to "choose zip from sdcard" again it still wasn't there. I ended up selecting "choose zip from external sdcard." and then everything worked. Just wanted to mention JIC. Thanks again!

Download Odin and superuser to my phone or pc?
Extract to my computer's Desktop?
How do I boot my phone into downloading mode?

Silly questions, I'm sure. Sorry :)

Download Odin to you computer.

Download superuser.zip to your phone. I downloaded the superuser.zip to the computer first and the transferred it to my phone via usb. The "superuser.zip" that the link was supposed to go to went to another file named UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.94.zip (I thought maybe the programmer updated the program so I still used it.) Also I put it in the root directory (the beginning of all the folders where you can't go any lower higher, etc.)

When you download odin to your computer it comes in a compressed file (.rar format). I got a separate program to decompress it WinZip because I couldn't easily get the computer to extract it. When you decompress the Odin file extract the file to your computer's desktop rather than the download folder or if the program wants you to extract it to some other place.

For the download mode you power on the phone while holding the down button.
