Help Unable to send texts/make calls

My husband is trying out my captivate to make the move to android from his 3gs. he wanted to turn 3g off while at work. he followed these steps

Dial *#*#197328640#*#*
Select 1 Debug screen
Select 8 Phone Control
Select 4 UE State Control

To turn 3g off
Select 3 Change RAT to GSM

and to turn back on
Select 2 Change RAT to WCDMA

so he tested it and then turned 3g back on. problem now is he cant send texts or make calls but he can receive texts and incoming calls. when he tries to make a call it says something about call barring but when we do menu-settings-call settings-voice calls-call barring it is all disabled

also in the text app menu-settings-the section that says Text Message (SMS) settings the only thing listed is input mode. message centre is completely missing and so is manage SIM card messages.

anyone know what to do? will a hard reset fix this?

You might try just powering it down and back on, and see if that clears is.

As for turning off 3G, I suggest he download SMODA widget. IT will allow you to turn 3G on and off with a touch of the screen.

We tried turning it off a bunch of times didn't fix it. But it seems to have corrected itself.

And that widget turns all data off he tried it. he wanted the phone to be on edge instead of 3g. Like on the iPhone you can turn 3g off and the phone will stay on the edge network. But oh well bought him an inspire for $30@radioshack so he is fussing with that now and the captivate is the backup phone.
