Help Unable to use Screencast with LG Optimus V

NetSpeedZ

Android Enthusiast
Unable to connect screencast unless the phone is rooted and flashed with a custom ROM (CyanogenMOD 7). Is there a special setting for the phone and/or screencast to use screencast on an unrooted phone?

Any assistance would be appreciated.

You have to have android debugging checked in settings > applications > development and make sure your antivirus on pc isn't blocking it.

I assume you have java jdk installed

That's not it. As stated in initial question, I can successfully attach to the phone with screencast when the phone is rooted AND flashed with CyanogenMOD. If that's the case, then what you give as a solution would prevent me from connecting to the phone via screencast regardless of having rooted the phone and flashing a custom ROM.

Yes, debugging is checked. I would have thought that was obvious if screencast runs on a phone that has a custom ROM flashed to it (Custom ROM's need the USB debugging enabled as well) as stated in the initial question.

I also find it obvious that if the phone is able to attach to screencast under a custom ROM, the antivirus is not the issue.

Is debugging checked under development? The antivirus part was a suggestion I believe.

Didn't know if debugging could have gotten turned off somewhere between cm7 and stock. Just covering the basics but I know my wifes phone is stock and screencast works

There must be another setting on the phone to set in order to allow screencast to access the phone. Maybe it has something to do with the baseband. What baseband is the phone running?

If you're talking about the Screencast app from Google Play (you did not specify), the app requires root to work.

You respond with a single word - 'Link?- and expect me to know what you are referring to?

I edited my post seconds after I hit enter. Even so, yes link. Link as in link to the screencast software.

People are trying to help you. Attitude from you isn't inspiring.

No attitude, merely stating facts. You typed in one word and expected me to read your mind.

I don't need a link to screencast. I've already got it. The screencast I'm referring to is the java screencast application to remote control a phone. The application that is included with the Android SDK.

I had originally intended to ask for the link for me not you... so that I could look at the software with the hopes of trying to help you, and then I thought perhaps it's included in the SDK which is why I edited my post.

While you may not mean for it to sound harsh, your tone seems to be just a bit harsh. I understand, it can be frustrating when there are miscommunications and you're getting some info you don't want.

So, to try to ease the frustration, I believe I can explain it better:

NetspeedZ is having difficulties connecting screencast to his unrooted device, but can do it when on a custom ROM. Petrah wishes to know where NetspeedZ found the application. I'm assuming so she could try to download it and perhaps try it herself to see if she can figure it out, or someone else could download it and try it.

Unfortunately, I have no experience with this app, so I can't offer any advice outside of asking people to take a step back, breathe, and try to communicate in a more clear fashion to be as helpful as possible to the others.

Good guess. You were right. I was unaware that there was other applications with the same name - screencast.

I don't have a link for screencast beings I've had it downloaded for a while. If you do need it - for whatever reason, I could email it to you.

You get tons of hugs, kudos, kisses, what ever... because you noticed I'm female and not male. :p
