Help Unbearable Pain of using Android....

abhishes

Newbie
I recently started using Samsung Galaxy S4. There is a particular issue which is driving me NUTS.

My Galaxy S4 is a lit a mini orchestra in my pocket... it makes a bling, bloop, ping, doop, pichkiung, ting, tooyyying, ... sounds every minute. which is VERY VERY annoying.

I want to block ALL sounds from ALL apps. I don't want to put my phone on mute because I cannot hear the phone ring or TEXT.

But I cannot go inside each and every app to mute it. I want to mute ALL sounds from ALL Apps. I want to disable all vibration from apps as well (so APPS can't make my phone vibrate) so only phone calls and text messages can vibrate the phone... but no facebook, twitter or the other 100 apps which I have on my phone.

Please help me ... Android is soooooo annoooyyyyyying.... can't believe that geniuses at Google can come up with something so deeply abhor-able.

Please don't flame me... because android has made me suffer enough and has inflicted deep pain by its audio violence.

AFAIK you will have to go into the settings of each offending app an set the notification sound to 'None' and turn vibrate off. Sounds like a pain but there's probably just a few apps you'll have to set. It will take maybe 10 minutes and you'll only need to do it once. You probably spent more time typing your question than it will take to correct it.

The problem is that all of these different sounds come under the heading of "notifications". You can turn the notification volume to zero at the system level, but that will silence your email and SMS apps' notifications as well. The problem is that the things you are interested in are apps the same as the things you are not interested in.

That said, I don't have a fraction as many apps making the sounds that you seem to. Mind I don't have Facebook/Twitter/etc on my phone at all, which may help (and I don't own a Samsung, so don't know whether Samsung's apps are contributing to this).

I have an S4 and my experience is nothing like the OP's. I get Phone, email and text notifications only but then I'm not into games or social network nonsense.

Same as you guys, I only had the Google Plus Community notifications that were starting to get on my nerves, so I just went into Settings, manage apps, and unticked "notifications" and that was the end of it.

I went into settings and then my device and then sound. here i found vibration intensity and volume.
when I clicked these I found that my phone (provided by AT&T) had maximum volume and maximum vibration for notifications.

this was driving me mad.

I put these to zero.

I can now live in peace.

Thanks to everyone who spent the effort to respond. special thanks to hadron and hiredgun.

Samsung S5 here, the only notifications I hear are for SMS messages.
The remaining sound is the Ringer when someone calls me.

The OP has something amiss, either with settings, or extraneous apps, or just needs to do a clean fresh slate and Factory Reset it and then he will know what is on the phone.
