Root unbricking not working

PrinceCorwin

Android Expert
When I run the KP500-utils-EN.exe, and choose option I (flash with assistance), I get a message immediately that says "error during the loading DLL.

What do I do now. I am stuck in a bootloop (rooted V7, not unlocked) with the 4G LTE logo.

Also, when I download and unzip the cab file, there isn't actually a file with a .cab extension. These are the 3 files in the zip:
VS920_WD_1_0_12_0.dll
VS920ZV7_15.S7_15.P58014.R5.wdb
VS920ZV7_15.S7_15.P58014.R5.wdh

I'm finding it hard to interpret instructions when file names and extensions don't match

Update: The tools works fine... I was mistyping the file path. Thanx to the senior members who replied to this thread and stayed with me until I realized my mistake

You leave the cab intact and move it to the same folder as kp500. That'll get ya sorted.

That error us because it can't find the cab file.. Has to be in the same folder to work.

are you saying not to unzip the v7 file i downloaded?

I just tried putting the unzipped file in the same place as the kp500 file. same error

another confusing thing about all this is that NOTHING that i donwloaded has a .cab extension. So when you say "the cab file", what file are you actually talking about. When I click on 7.15 (ICS) - http://csmg.lgmobile...5.P58014.R5.cab from the Flashing LG signed Firmware website, i don't see any .cab files after download

Right click and save as, and if you're using IE, upgrade to a better browser. The only thing that can open these .cab files is microsoft cab extractor, and while it shouldn't do it automatically, it sounds like it is.

If you're accessing and downloading a cab file, you don't unzip it. The tool does that and processes the appropriate parts. The fact, most zips of roms are never unzipped....Only tools like the root or 'pwnage' tool are unzipped. Roms and cabs are flashed or pushed as is and other tools unzip them as necessary.

So take the cab and love it to the same folder as the kp500 exe file. Open kp500 and it'll do the rest. It's really that easy.

Ok, that sort of worked. Now I get a page error. And I installed the drivers and disabled the modem. Now what?

page error or page fault?

page fault and being fully kicked out of the program means your not letting the update tool thru your firewall.

page error could me many things.

I'll need the full error line if possible please. also, does this error kick you out, keeps running, or allows you to restart?

Weird. Wait, I think I've seen that error. I got it when I ran the exe without the cab in the same folder.

could be that the file is in a directory that contains a space, could be that the .cab is missing from the end of the file he's typing in, or could just be the random quirk that the program has where you need to run it a second time to get it to work.

I just did it again. when the page error occurs, the Phone update popup says... "updating is not possible due to a fatal error while the LG Mobile Phone Software Update". The only option it gives me is to exit

I can all but guarantee this is a bad file path. Where do you have the file stored and what "letter for letter" are you typing into the 4 prompts on the KP500 tool?

I created an xp virtual machine to restore to the ICS. Haven't posted yet but it might help u. Basically u need to install a VMware then click file folder for ICS .cab. Everything is already installed. I saw this done for other lg's.

I can't iterate how bad of an idea this is. Flashing system partitions thru a virtual USB interface is screaming for issues. Not to mention the fact, that they would need to tell VMware to let the virtual machine grab control of the phone in the first place.

I think its working
I feel stupid
I was leaving the colon out of the C:\ filepath

It worked for me in emergency situations. Maybe he should not try and just get a Galaxy S3! :) I'm pretty disgusted with LG and their locked hboot for ICS.

WooHoo!!!! Success!!!!
Neph and MrB, you guys are lifesavers. Thanx for staying with me through this. This nightmare is why I got out of coding in the 90s. My logic is precise but I'm extremely too prone to syntax mistakes and that is unexceptable in the coding field.

And why use a vmware box when you can do it without? It's more work than necessary.

Just another means to do it. Seems a lot of folks are having problems or this thread would not even exits.

Heading says " unbricking not working" FYI. :what:

I fail to see the logic in your argument. Almost every thread about the KP500 tool not working has been due to the file path being typed wrong. This would not be fixed by having a virtual machine and only adds another layer for something to go wrong. If you feel the urge to push this out, then that's fine. It also means that you will need to be the support to the people using it and not the rest of us trying to trouble shoot it as this goes from easy setup to complex setup of a virtual machine.

Yea don't have much time too support which is why I haven't posted it. But it is really easy once setup.

The tool works just fine but all the threads about it and other thing not working are due to people rushing and not fully reading the instructions. I'm guilty of doing the same when I used the tool last.... I thought it was broken, but I forgot to put the cab into the exe folder, which was covered in the instructions.
