Root Underclocking and Voltages.

I just installed the CyanogenMod on my Galaxy ace and I LIKES, i installed system tuner and it has a CPu overclock,Underclock feature, but I was wondering does the voltage change if you overclock or underclock, I was more thinking of underclocking it to 245 mhz, which I did for a bit, but would that use less power >???

Also is it safe to underclock it to 122 mhz which is the lowest setting in System Tuner
will do, just thinking of doing this to increase battery life only, but only if the voltages decrease by doing this.

Also would there somewhere I can get info about the Arm Cpu in he ace and see what voltages are used at what CPu mhz speed !!!!

?PS Does CyanogenMod 7.2 have a built in overclock, underclock feature, swear I saw it in there somewhere !!!!

Cheers if you can help :)

CM does have an overclock feature in the settings> CM settings> performance, there you can overclock/underclock or change governors. But if the kernel does not support overclocking, these functions won't work. I don't know if the official version currently has an overclock kernel or not, you can change the kernel as per your choice, there are many available.

You can underclock till 122mhz and yes that will increase battery life but you will have a very slow phone and will experience alot of lag when accessing apps,
most people actually overclock it and keep the minimum frequency to 245mhz with smartass governor.:p

when I underclocked to half speed about 400mhz when screen on and 122mhz when screen off I got about extra 20% life however it did noticebly affect user experience.

I now no longer underclock and just use smartassv2 governer instead which has its own screen off profile that caps the clock speed when the screen is off.

also as far as I know voltages wont change because no ace kernel supports voltage changes yet which is a shame as then could undervolt the phone without dropping clock speeds, so less power for same performance.

How do you save power by underclocking if the voltages do not change from 800mhz to 122mhz ????

Or are you saying there are voltage drops all along the line, but just we can't change them :)

Cheers.

When you underclock the cpu, it decreases the processing speed so you consume less battery.

Voltage drops all the time as the battery discharges itself, its just that we can't control it.
