Unexplained Battery Drain

Hey guys. I'm having a battery drain issue, and I thought I'd run it by you geniuses out there. ;)

Anyway, I have had my S3 Mini for about three weeks, and have not noticed any excessive battery drain until the last couple of days. Based on a two nights in a row test, my battery was originally draining by 5% overnight. Now it's 20% or so. Also, yesterday evening and thismorning I left it completely idle for half an hour and came back to it, and it had drained by 2% both times.

I installed wakelock detector, and my phone doesn't seem to be being kept awake by anything.

Under battery in settings it says that Android OS is using 45% of the battery if this is any use to anybody. When i go into that it says CPU total 50m 37s and Stay Awake 28m 18s. I don't know if that info helps anyone?

Thanks in advance for your help guys. :)

Welcome to Android Forums. I moved your thread to the forum dedicated to discussing your phone.

You could try running in Safe Mode (disabling all apps you added without uninstalling them) and if the problem disappears you will know that it is caused by an app that you added.

Thanks very much Paul, that seems to have worked. The phone drained by 5% again overnight. Cheers!

Cool.
BTSTGTTS.

I've done this a few times after messing with installing and un-instsalling apps and caused battery drains.Smart phones are,"Computers" so it's a bit like the,"IT Crowd" TV comedy e.g,"Have you tried turning it off and on again<grin><j/k> :D

Hey again. Ok it turns out i'm still having the issue. Rebooting it after charging seemed to fix it but now even that doesn't work. It had drained by 3% in fifteen minutes last time. What could be causing this?? :(

Couple of things come to mind. You may have an app that is either badly written or just doesn't like your O/S version and it's not releasing resources. This may not be easy to track down.
Another possibility is a sub-par battery. This has been known even with new phones.I bought a cheap,"Gold" battery from Ebay after checking user feedback on the seller I chose. It was less than a fiver for my s5830i so I would try another battery. If it isn't the battery you will still have a spare that you can keep charged for emergency.
Also how long a use are you getting before charges overall as,"Smart Phones" gobble battery life when using some apps/Internet and are the weak-spot IMHO on smart phones. The technology in the phones has outstripped the technology in the batteries.
I use DS Battery Saver,

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rootuninstaller.batrsaver&hl=en

But still charge around once a day in heavy use.
Also,on occasion,I've left apps installed and even Duplicates :O and these can fight each other and drain the battery. One time I had two Battery saving apps and they actually made it worse as they were competing.
For this Es File Explorer/manager is just too good not to have(Google Play Store free). You can use it's,"App Manager" to see a full list of what you have installed among it's other fantastic uses.

I also use,"Clean Master"(Use with caution/backup your data/SD card before deleting anything).
