Help unexplained data usage

I have a Samsung s5. A few days ago my data usage went crazy. I wasn't doing anything new or different just started racking up usage. I turned off my data to stop from incurring massive charges. I wanted to download pictures from my text messages so when I was at home in wifi I still couldn't. After much frustration I turned on data and the picture downloaded. Any ideas about what I should be looking for in my settings or should I just go to my nearest att location and get HELP???

You might want to consider something new you've added to your app library. For your data usage to suddenly change it sounds like something new to the mix. I hope this helps.

Go to settings // data usage to get a clue about what is using your data.
