Help Unfortunately Settings has stopped

Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini Model SCH-I435, Android version 4.2.2

An attempt to update the phone manually results in the above error message. This message only appears when attempting a manual update from the Settings menu.

In Safe Mode the same error occurs. The cache was cleared, same error. As a final effort, the phone was reset, and the same error occurs.

Any suggestions? This phone should update to Android 4.4, but apparently there is an issue with the update function.

I see 4.4.2 firmware for that device.
You could flash the firmware via Odin and update that way. Keep in mind it will wipe the phone like new.

Well, thanks for the reply, but I have a new problem now. I reset the phone to factory new, and now, after activating, the setup wizard crashes and I'm left with a black screen. I can get to the Task Manager but that's it. I've reset it several times now, with the same result every time.

That resolved it. Updated to 4.4.2 and it's working normally so far. Thanks for the suggestion.
