Root Unfortunatley, Settings has stopped

I have an Android Desire Version 4.1.1, running Cyanogen Mod 10-20120803 which works fine with the exception of the following issue:

I have my phone plugged into USB on my PC. I select Settings>Wireless & Networks>More>Check portable Wi-Fi hotspot and then attempt to check USB tethering all I get is "Unfortunately, Settings has Stopped. There is no other option other than to touch Ok which takes me back to settings.

I cannot download from the Google Play store.

Very annoying

Any help would be appreciated!

If their is anything else you need to know about the phone please let me know.

Quick question: why are you tethering to access the Play Store? Can't you just turn on WiFi and do it from the phone?

Yes, that I can do of course but I need to tether to my PS at work to do so.

Do you have a link to the ROM? There's no official CM10 for the Desire, so I don't know precisely which ROM this is - it's somebody's own ROM based on CM sources, but I think more than one person has tried that. I'd like to check whether it's a known problem, but need to know which ROM it is to do that.

However, this CM-based JB ROM definitely lists "USB tethering" as one of its known bugs. This one has a link to an app it claims is needed for wired tethering. I know that Nikez' JB lists USB tethering as one of the things that isn't working, and a lot of other JB ROMs are based off that. So there's a fair chance that it's a limitation of the ROM.
