Help Unidentified Icon in Notification Bar

In the top left corner of my Samsung Galaxy S3 is the letter "i" in a circle with a line through it. see attached.

I have been told it is because my notifications are off, but they are on; I was also told it is due to a blocked call in my call log, I cleared the log and the icon remains. Lastly I tried re-bootting the phone but the icon is still there.

Can any tell me what it is and how to get rid of it.

It means you turned off notifications. There is a toggle on and off button in the row of buttons that also made it into your pictures.
