Help Unidentified Sound

Guy30000

Lurker
For the past week or 2 my phone has been making this weird chyme sound. I have now clue what it is. It happens randomly when I'm using the phone. Mostly when the screen is on and i'm interacting with it. However today it did do it as it was sat down with the screen off for several seconds. There is nothing in the notification panel that coincides with it. There is nothing to do with NFC, or emails that some research has yielded.

Here is the video, sound happens at about 7 seconds. It happens as I turn on the screen but there is no pattern to when it occurs. This is one of several videos I made trying to catch the sound.

Has anybody heard this sound before?

Do you have a live wallpaper running? In your video there appeared to be an animation activated at the same time you unlocked the screen.

I do. But that isnt the source of the sound I've had that wallpaper for awhile. I see in the video what you're referring to. It was just a coincidence that that graphic was triggered and the sound happened. That is a silent bubble like graphic that pops when I unlock the screen.
Something interesting I did notice as I was double checking this on my phone just now. The sound occurred but it was quieter than normal. Checking my sound mixer, all sounds are set at max; Ringtone, Notifications and system. Except for media. So this sound must be related to some media app I have on here.

Have you tried your phone without the live wallpaper running, out of interest or checked it's settings?

Can you remember what you have installed or updated in the last 2 weeks? Try uninstalling or disabling any new apps, especially apps claiming to be free.

I've tried with different wallpapers to check on this and removed all recently installed apps for testing. I have nothing. I can find no rhyme or reason for this sound to happen. Closed all running apps and just let it sit and it would still happen.

Sounds like a system app maybe. Why not go into the sounds settings on the phone and look for the offending notification sound.

If its not found in the default sounds it could indicate a rogue app making the sound.

Have you tried safe mode to rule out any installed app? Hold down the power button until Power Off appears on the screen, now tap and hold on the notification to enable safe mode and reboot. Remember another reboot will turn safe mode off again.

Checked through all of that. In safe mode the sound still happens. I see nothing in my sound menu that brings up that. Checked all notification sound files and didnt find that one.

What about going into your settings/sound & notifications/sound effects, and turn off all options just to see if the sound can be reproduced? (or is that what you were referring to in your post above @JAy3001 ?)
It almost sounds like a screen-on sound effect, but you mention that is happens when you are actively interacting with the device.
What device/android version is it?
