Root Uninstall ADW launcher in CM7

Hey guys,

Not sure if this is the right place to post it so if it's not, I'm sorry guys!
So I downloaded CM 7.2 from Alquez from XDA(Thumbs up for his rom btw) and it came with ADW launcher as default. Now I'm not that much big of a fan of ADW. I believe Go launcher/ Go Locker is much better. So I would like to install this launcher instead. Now we all know Wildfire S phones come with barely any memory.
So, if I download Go launcher, can I uninstall ADW launcher without any problem or can the rom crash/ give problems?

Caro,

I split your post from that other thread since it's really a separate issue.

As for your question, I've never tried uninstalling a launcher in /system/apps but I don't see why it would be a problem. Just make sure the new launcher is installed first and you do a Titanium backup or better yet a Nandroid backup. Hope that helps!

Thanks cafekampuchia....I had a feeling that I was posting in the wrong thread.

I think I'll follow your advice. Make a nandroid backup and then install Go launcher and see what happens.

I'll post the results once it's done for any future people that want to try the same thing.

Ok so uninstalling ADW was a bad idea....The phone kept on going in a bootloop...
So please don't try that! I will keep both ADW and Go launcher until I find some way, if there is any...

I was Googling how to do this and Google brought me here and I'm still a bit confused so if anyone could help me out, that'd be great. I also use Go Launcher and I hate ADW Launcher. I found a way to keep Go Launcher as my default using some app I found on the market called 'Home Switcher'. However, I just want to straight up uninstall ADW now and it does seem that you're able to uninstall ADW using Titanium but the part that I'm confused about is what CafeKampuchia said about linking something to the SD card. Do you mean linking ADW to the SD card and then uninstalling using Titanium? Also, do I have to use Link2SD to move it or could I just use whatever's already on my phone to move it? Thanks

Hi StealthHawk69 and welcome to AF!

I didn't find any other way to uninstall ADW as of yet. I did find something in the Cyanogen forum. They said to move the GO launcher files in the system folder or something like that. But it was a bit technical so I thought I would just let it be for now.
What Cafekampuchia meant with linking Go launcher is a completely different thing. Link2SD is an app that allows you to 'link' pretty much all apps to the SD card, saving a huge amount of internal memory. Moving Go launcher with Link2SD is not the only option but, it's the best availble in the market in my opinion.

Ah, alright thanks. If you do find a way, please send me a PM as I would love to get rid of ADW!
This an interesting subject as even on a cm7 build I'm using on my Motorola triumph claims to have changed the launcher from adw to zeam but yet adw is still a system app in my rom so that leads me to believe that its not advised to remove it althoght the triumph isn't as crushed for memory like the wildfire so maybe its there just in case.

Not to confuse the situation

My friend got this working. His instructions: must have titanium back up pro to do it. Using titanium convert go launcher to a system app. Change launcher to go launcher and set it add default. Now, convert Adw to a user app using titanium and then uninstall using whatever uninstall method you are comfortable with, and your all done.

I cannot confirm this personally add I have not done it, but his phone works fine after he did it. A always, NANDROID FIRST! Just in case this does not work for you.

Good luck!

UPDATE!

So.... I tried this myself on my EVO 4g (when you convert Adw to a user app titanium automatically uninstalled it by the way) and when i rebooted my phone it initially froze on the white HTC EVO screen. Figured I would have to restore my Nandroid backup but went ahead and pulled the battery and rebooted first and VOILA!, I now have cm7 i with go launcher as the default launcher and no adw to be found.

Just FYI version info I am using:
CM-7.2.0-Supersonic
GO Launcher EX 3.10

P.S. remember to use titanium "Integrate updates of system apps into ROM" if you upgrade to a newer version of GO launcher after making it a system app so that the new version will still be a system app, and of course before you that NANDROID first in case the new version breaks it.
