Help Uninstalling Apps

bigny56

Newbie
Hello Everyone,

I'm a newbie to the Android community and had a question about uninstalling apps. There are a few apps that came pre-installed with my MyTouch4G phone that I would like to get rid of, because I just don't use them. When i go to settings-->applications--->manage applications--->All, I can see the application but when i touch it the "uninstall" button is grayed out. I was wondering if someone could walk me through unistalling these programs if at all possible. Thank You so much in advance.

Andrew.

That is correct. If it's a stock app you have to have the phone rooted before you can uninstall. If it's an app that has been downloaded from the market all you have to do is go the market>>downloads>>long press the app you want to uninstall>>tap on uninstall.

Thanks to everyone that has replied to my thread; I really appreciate the help. I think i will stay away from ROOTing the phone because i don't wanna mess something up being a newbie. But, that launcher pro seems like a good idea.

that really sucks that you cant uninstall those stock apps, i was trying the same thing,...WHy the @#! would I want that horrible car racing game?!!?

I agree...its kind of silly to force you to hack the phone inorder to uninstall apps. Maybe theres an app to uninstall apps or grant you root privileges

I'd like to root it, but I'm worried that I'll eff something up and brick the phone. I installed launcher pro, but couldn't find it in the apps folder. lol. Like I said..NEWBIE :(

looks like everyones google is broken, lmao. forum search must be as well:rolleyes:

Use adb (rm -r /system/app/[AppName].apk) or root explorer to delete preloaded apps. Don't forget /system must be mounted if not already.

I have this question: Can we root without loading a new rom? (can I keep the original operation system and get administrator rights?). Can we keep receiving updates after rooting?

xperia arc 2.3.4 with sfr france

Yes you can root and not load a new ROM. No you wont receive updates after that .
