Uninstalling google maps forever (including latitude)

I hope you guys can help me...
I want to uninstall maps from my desire (froyo).
The phone is 1 day old and I don't care about the way I do it as long as I do it.
If someone knows how to do it step by step, (keep in mind, I don't understand 90% of the tech talk here) could you please help me. If you don't want to post it here, you can send me an e-mail with instructions at (erased)
I would be very thankful!
Cheers!

Any app that comes preinstalled on your phone cannot be removed without rooting your phone. Based on your self-assessed skill level, I wouldn't recommend rooting, or any other warranty-violating tinkering with your phone.

Why would you want to remove Maps anyway? It's one of the best apps there is.

If you don't want to use it, you don't have to. The only reason I could see to want to remove it is if you want to reclaim some internal storage space, but your phone is only 1 day old - can't see how you would have a space issue already.

If you rooted and removed Google Maps, I think you'd find there's ton of apps that would no longer work as well.
