Unlimited customers to be throttled after 7/7?

I am so tempted to run into a Verizon store today to make a switch back from Sprint to the Big Red. I've had an Evo for most of the last year and use about 7-8GB of data each month, streaming radio during my daily commute - mostly via 3G because the 4G in Chicago is so spotty. I'd love to jump on the "real" 4G train.

My biggest fear is, the fine print Verizon decided to slip in back in Feb, allowing them to throttle the top 5% users is probably going to take the stage in coming weeks. I have to imagine VZW is going to start putting that into effect after the 7th. And considering 95% of users apparently use less than 2GB (Nielsen), I'd be screwed - as would some others that I've seen on here (at least if they signed on after Feb).

If discount carrier T-Mobile is at a hard 2GB throttle, you have to imagine VZW is going to be just as conservative on that front, right?

Has anyone heard any rumblings on this - in respect to the 7/7 date? I feel like I'm about to take take a gamble here - and just feeling out the odds.. so, so tempted! :)

I doubt there are any true answers out there right now.

If you dislike Sprint and want to move to Verizon, now is the time irregardless of any potential future throttling. At least that is my two cents....

Thanks - I think I'm going to do it. I imagine there are plenty of us that use more than 2GB a month, especially on 4G. I'd imagine there would be an uproar if a bunch of us started getting throttled. The difference with T-Mobile is that they have a hard 2GB throttle point that's advertised. This whole 5% thing probably will cause quite a bit of confusion and frustration. <convincing myself here>;)

Considering how TMo coverage was before I switched to VZW it would be kinda hard to even get to 2GB lol

People are doing it easily on their 4G service.. I've read a lot of complaints of "heavy" users and the throttling. That sucks..

I've not noticed any throttling and easily use over 10 gb monthly. I would be willing to bet between here and xda the top 5% are well represented and I've yet to see anyone complaining of throttling issues

Yeah, that's my concern. Like the existence of the unlimited plan itself, it has been a free for all while VZW ramped up the network and prepared to rollout this tiered mess. I have a feeling that, along with the new tiers, will come some other surprises.

I took the plunge last night anyway. Hopefully, headlines on this (if any) surface during my trial period. If not, oh well.. I'll just start managing things a bit tighter.

If you aren't on a 4g phone I dont think you will come close to the top 5%. I was a heavy (10-20 gb/month) 3g user when I got a 4g phone my use went up. I was downloading stuff almost all the time back with my d2g, now I am downloading stuff less than 20% of the time, it is just so much easier to chew up that data when it comes so much faster
