Help Unlock a MyTouch4G

I am very disappointed that AT&T has swallowed up T-Mobile, I want to be able to unlock this phone once this is all said and done because I do not want to pay for AT&T's higher rates. I will try to find a cheaper carrier.

Thank you

This is what worked for me.

I'm not sure how unlocking would help you, though. After AT&T swallows up T-Mobile, there won't be any other major GSM carriers in the US.

Foreign travel.

OP - can you not just ask T-mobile for an unlock code after using the phone for 60 (90?) days with them?

You can contact Tmo after using the phone for 15 days (or 30 days in some state). They will send you an unlock code from the HTC. Just tell them you need to travel to Europe or Asian and you would like to use the phone locally.

But then, you will need to find another GSM carrier. AFAIK, there's only AT&T and Tmobile are GSM.

This is the original context I was responding to: I want to be able to unlock this phone once this is all said and done because I do not want to pay for AT&T's higher rates. I will try to find a cheaper carrier.

So, no, it isn't for international travel. It's for trying to avoid AT&T's higher rates, which, after it's merged with T-Mobile, will be unavoidable with a GSM phone in the United States.

The acquisition might not take place. Even if it does, it will be at least a year from now. And they might still honor all the grandfather plan from Tmobile. I came from ATT to Tmo and hated to be back to ATT.
