Is there any way to get around having to push the power button to unlock the phone before using it?

I do but I guess I was thinking more along the lines to "wake" the phone up. If I want to make a phone call I have to push the power button to wake the phone up then swipe to unlock. I was hoping there was a way to get away from having to push the power button to wake it up before swiping.
