Help Unlock screen missing numbers

I have had my sgs2 for about a month now and on the odd occasion when i press the unlock button some of the number are missing from the unlock password screen, its always differnet numbers, i havent noticed a pattern. This is highly annoying as i cant enter my password and so have to swith the phone off then back on again. It looks like a graphics problem in that the whole screen is drawn wrong.

Anybody else had the same issue and if so how did you fix it.

i have attached a jpeg image of the screen

android version 2.3.3
kernal version 2.6.35.7-i9100xwke2-cl187606 root@dell101 #2

Not really used the screen pin lock much. Dont know what could be causing it, maybe a bug in the firmware. Have you tried updating your firmware?

When i go to settings>about phone>check for updates it says that no software updates are availible. Is firmeware different to software and if so how do i go about updating the firmware.

I am with the o2 network in the uk and i thought that rooting a phone would invalidate my warrenty. I have read through other forums that i am to use kies to update the firmware via my provider.

Could anybody confirm if this is the case.

I do believe that rooting your phone WILL invalidate your warranty.

I hear that you'll be fine if you can unroot it before you return it. Depending on the nature of the fault, that might not be possible though - and then your warranty is shot. Personally, I decided to skip rooting, even though I'm an inveterate fiddler! Too expensive to risk. ;)

Same problem here. Missing numbers, exactly as on your screen. I also have the latest software available through Kies, so 2.3.3.

I had to turn off the phone and on again.

But this way i lost some of the data i had open.

I have the same bug on my Galaxy S I9000 with a German system, had this the 2nd time some minutes ago.

I have the latest firmware installed, no root or similar fancy things.

I cannot say what leads to that behaviour, last time it was about 2 months ago, so it happens on really odd occasions.

Turning the phone to landscape doesn't change anything, the lock screen is not turnable.

Only rebooting the phone solves the problem, but HOW can this happen at all???

(unfortunately as a new user here I am not allowed to post my screenshot... although I was allowed to upload... strange, too!)

Thanks in advance, any help is welcome.
