Help Unlock Screen won't appear

Hey guys,
I am trying to unlock my phone. It's a rogers (Canadian) phone. I put a telus sim card in it, but when the phone boots, it says "activating phone", black screen with little spinney thing, then the phone continues to boot normally, and the main screen says "no sim in phone", and basically ignores the sim card. Any ideas?

I'm on my phone and can't be bothered to search but are you trying to put a sim card from one service provider into a phone from another service provider?

If so then I can guess that this is the problem... If not then no idea

Yeah, I am basically trying to unlock the phone, everyone else just drops in a sim card from another provider and bam, the screen that asks you to enter the unlock code appears. Not my phone though.
