Root unlock to root ??

Mehta's correct, the AAHK would unlock your phone as part of the rooting process. I rooted pre-AAHK... part of the rooting process was SIM unlocking :)
 
Alright matey, nice username by the way, I made a UDS last year and am often found rocking the brisket or ribs nom nom

I rooted my original Desire HD pretty much effortlessly years ago but it's been replaced by one that came with 2.3.5 and that's a different story.

It seems like the AAHK is the best route but unfortunately when I run it it gets to the downgrade part but doess not download the 'dowgrade' file, from what I gather from the interweb the fella that set this up in the first place no longer has the servers up or has taken the 'downgrade' file off or something so it stops there for me. But then you can't expect people to keep everything going forever can you :)

I'm not sure if it's the same as what I'm thinking, but IIRC you can choose which RUU to flash and you just put it in a specified folder?
