Help unlocking and updating

Timeless

Newbie
long story short my friend has a HTC Wildfire, the sim works for texts and calls but for the life of me l cant work out how to get the net going.

basically the phone is on the network Vodaphone but he has a Tesco Mobile sim in it. l assume the phone needs unlocking to be network free in order to be able to get the 3g working.

from what l have seen it seems its going to cost him either way so would updating android to a different version be an easier way to go about it or is the phone itself locked to a particular network in some way at a firmware level which wont be affected by updating to a different version of android?

(that and lm assuming the same technique as noted in this readme would work for flashing and installing a new rom)

If he can receive calls and texts, it's most likely already unlocked. You probably need to enter the Tesco Mobile APN settings to access the net.

Settings -> Wireless & Networks -> Mobile Networks -> Access Point Names.

No idea what the Tesco APN's are although I think they piggyback on O2's signal?

thats what l have found but as of yet lve not found anything that works.. l do know that the phone was originally on the Vodaphone network but l assumed that because he can send and receive texts as well and calls that all l needed was APN settings.. while l can get the H logo say its connected it just doesnt seem to do more than update the clock and load white pages on the browser.

idk if this is useful but for your troubleshooting maybe this could give you some needed info. type *#*#4636#*#* on your phone dial

just curious, what sort of info will that bring up.. not had to use that hash code before the only one lve really touched gave me the IMEI

Its a testing interface. Gives you tons of phone info, battery info etc. you can do ping test. Switch between cdma gsm etc... I am not familiar with it. You can google for more info. Although a lot of the info on the internet might be outdated.
