Unlocking mydead dad's phone?

AnniBee

Lurker
My dad died yesterday and he had a ZTE Blade A610. I need to make sure I can contact people he knew to inform them of his death and when a funeral will be. But I cannot remember his pin code. Is there any way I can get into the phone? I have his gmail account details, I receive his emails on my phone because he wasn't necessarily tech savvy. Can I use the gmail to help unlock his phone?

Sorry to hear about the passing of your father.
If you access to his email you can always copy and paste his contacts into yours then send to his contacts of his passing.
As far as the unlock code, unless you have it it's locked.

You can apply to Google. There have been other threads on many forums as this will sadly be an issue for people the world over every day. I cannot find such threads at the moment.

While forums can be skeptical or assume this is a ruse, there has been general concern, but for a lot of people a solution is made available.

Also try your carrier / network, phone brand as well as Google for assistance with the Android device of anyone that has been lost. Most of us "never know when death will take us" (Linda Ronstadt - Goodbye My Friend) and it will be an issue for those we didn't know well who may be left to alert others.

Oops. If the OP have the Gmail password she should be good to go, right?

Well, Find My Device won't unlock any more, but there will be access to Contacts although not call history.

Use a computer, log into your Dad's GMail, and you'll be able to access his contacts from there. I've not logged onto GMail from a browser for a while so can't say exactly where they will be, but they will be there (you used to look for a small red arrow near the top left to change the view from mail to contacts, but it's probably been redesigned since then).

If you wanted you could even sync his account with another phone, but that shouldn't be needed.

Sorry for your loss. I know how tough that is.

So sorry about your loss.
Just to clarify, your reference to having his 'Gmail account details' does mean you know the password to log into his Gmail?. If yes than you already have full access to things like his email, contacts, calendar -- you just need to go through their web interfaces to access his Google account services instead of trying to hack into his phone. It's the same data.
