Help unlocking o2 sim htc desire

i have an htc desire s that im not using right now,its on o2 but my wife has dropped hers and smashed the screen,i was going to swap them over but her 3 sim isnt accepted and i was wondering if i used a new rom would this unlock it to take any sim???

Rooting a phone and flashing a new ROM will not unlock the SIM/phone from a network provider. The two processes are entirely different and separate.
