Unlocking questions

Hey everyone,

I'm brand new to the forums and don't know very much about the inner workings of Android, although I somehow (perhaps by divine intervention) managed to root my phone. I have a couple questions about unlocking my phone to switch carriers (T-Mobile doesn't seem nearly as greedy as the fat cat that is AT&T). Is it necessary to unlock the phone? Did I already do that when I rooted the phone? Also, I'm a little confused about SIM cards in general. Do I have to unlock anything if I'm getting a new SIM card from T-Mobile? Or do I only have to unlock if I'm keeping the same SIM card?

Please take some pity on me--I'm a beginner at all this!

I would, off the top of my head, say take the phone to T Mobile and have them set it up for you when you get the new contract with them. They most likely will put a new SIM card in it.

I'm not sure if the T-mobile bands are the same as AT&T, the phone may not work over 3G.
