Unlocking?

So, I bought an HTC Inspire and according to Straight Talk, it isn't unlocked and I need to unlock it to use my Straight Talk SIM in it. I'm willing to buy an unlock code, but the problem is that when I insert my straight talk SIM it reads it, gets my contacts, even says I have a voicemail, but it says no service, and won't let me call or text. So, it never gives me a place to put a SIM unlock code. Someone on another thread said I may need to just switch it to GSM, but they wouldn't explain how. So, Any suggestions on what to do?!

What OS are you on?
Has your Inspire been unlocked already (to your knowledge)?

If straight talk's base company is AT&T then it won't give you an error message. This provided, you do need to have the correct SIM card. It needs to be 4G only (no LTE). I am AT&T GoPhone SIM card in mine and it only gave me an error message that it was not the correct type of SIM card. However, I use CyanogenMod 10.1 now and I could use any carrier I wish.

Edit:
Here is the link for CyanogenMod 10.1:
