Unprompted App Install - Virus?

Nordo1

Lurker
I am a Newbie. I have a rooted Galaxy S GT-I9000.

About a week ago I downloaded and installed "Juice Defender" and have been happy with my increased battery life.
Today I had a notification of an "urgent" android update.
As soon as I touched the message, I saw that the app was "Battery Booster MAX", but within a second or so, without any further prompting, the app installed.
The app doesn't appear anywhere except in my Notification Log that it has been downloaded and installed.
It doesn't even list in Titanium Backup.

I don't believe it is part of Juice Defender and I don't want it on my phone.
Is it a virus?
How can I remove it?

Cheers:)

Also, if you are rooted, then you should be able to either use some command line via terminal emulator or ADB to find it, or restore to a nandroid without the app installed.

That's a bummer though, any other app that might be the culprit?

I'm a Newbie so I'm not familiar with ADB commands (or any advanced stuff:o).

About the same time as I installed Juice Defender, I also installed iOnRoad Lite and Iris. The last app I installed previous to these three was about 3 months ago - GPS Tracking.

I hate when things happen without being prompted or approved. Instantly makes me suspicious.

I think this isn't an app, it is just a shortcut to a web site.
Shove the icon in the trash bin to get rid of this spam.

There may a culprit app which caused this aggressive AirPush advertising.

If this culprit app yet installed on your phone then you might find it with Lookout's Ad Network Detector or a other AirPush detector from Market/Play Store :)

Thanks Harry, I'll do a bit of learning about AirPush.
I'll download Ad Network Detector and see what happens.

There is no icon. There is no evidence for the app anywhere except in my Notifications pull down log (that's what scares me:eek:).

Well, maybe it's just an AirPush spam setting in your web browser's settings.
Starts your browser still to your default web site?

I think you may have been right. It's an AirPush problem.
I downloaded and ran AirPush Detector as well as Addons Detector.
They both found that "iOnRoads Lite" was the culprit.
I've uninstalled it using Titanium Backup and I now feel a lot happier.:)

Thanks Harry:beer:
