This question may have been asked before but couldn't find it. Is there a way w/o rooting to get the unread count to show on the icons for apps such as Gmail and Facebook?

Yes you can do it without rooting by downloading Nova launcher Here-->http://bit.ly/Kg3D9i, And TeslaUnread here - - > http://bit.ly/QVthJN I use it and works really well for telling me when I have something in my inbox or an update on Playstore without actually launching the app to check. Hope this helps.
