Help Unrecognised file type - (Music Player) and ringtone not working

Hi, I ended up tacking my problems onto the end of a thread in the S2 forum but perhaps I should ask here.

My Galaxy is around 6 months old, and is now on Gingerbread. I have long been experiencing a problem with the music player suddenly not recognizing the music files, and the suggestions have come through thick and fast - reconnect to kies and disconnect in different ways, reformat the memory cards and so on. I have tried all of this and still the music player stops without warning.

The real issue with this is that I use an mp3 for a ringtone and therefore I get up to 20 missed calls a day due to the phone not physically ringining. I have altered the phone to use one of its own ringtones to prevent this, but I cannot use the music player nor customise the handset and this makes it an expensive notmucher.

The phone has all the latest updates and firmware and stuff. I had someone suggest that my memory card may be corrupt or fake but its a couple of years old and no problem before. Additionally, the phone would not play music it came pre-installed with i.e. not on my memory card! I've deleted that music as it sucks. But i still need help!

Thanks

First post on these forums!

I'm disappointed to read what you've posted Fluffy, from a purely selfish viewpoint. The reason being, I've been getting this problem too (sporadically right enough, not regularly), amongst other things. No internet connection being the most obvious. The only thing that seems to remedy both faults is when I do a reset, i.e battery cover off battery out and sim out etc. It sorts the problem, aye, but t's a proper pain in the hoop. I'm doing it around once a week just now, and the phone is only 4 months old.

I'm running 2.2 just now, and had hoped that an upgrade to 2.3 would give me a decnt fix on it, but by the sounds of the problem you're having, it would appear not. Boo hiss.

Let me guess. You either have or use the official Twitter app?

Reset phone fixes the issue for 24-48 hours and it comes back?

I've had the issue. You may find videos won't play either, and you can't record/play via the camcorder.

I think people should refer to my post because this issue is posted at minimum once a day.

I deleted the official twitter app (I had it and it was find, but seems to be tied to the widget, but I'm uncertain of this so I got rid of it entirely) and haven't had the problem reoccur. Tweetdeck is an excellent replacement, or if you do not use it - delete it.

It's REALLY relieving to finally be able to set my ringtone back to my mp3s :P

Ok well thanks for the feedback, and I am glad someone has found a resolution. Yes I was using the Twitter widget - the phone has now gone back to Samsung for this and other problems (won't hold a battery charge for more than 3 hours). When it comes back and if not resolved, I will remove Twitter. I'm more into Facebook to be honest..... Thank you soo much!
