Help Unresponsive Screen

I searched the forums here, but had no luck finding any useful information. My mom just got a Dinc a few weeks ago and every once in a while her screen becomes unresponsive. It doesn't happen while using any specific app or anything. The capacitive buttons at the bottom do not work either, but pushing the trackball down does. The only way she has found to get the screen working again is to lock the phone and then unlock it.

Does anyone have an idea as to what might be causing this or how to fix it? Thanks in advance for any help.

This happens to me occasionally. Sometimes a reboot seems to fix it, but other times I suspect the phone is just tying itself up in knots trying to perform a scheduled sync over my poor connection at home. It doesn't seem to happen when the connection is good.
