Help Unrooted backup

My partners phone is getting exchanged under warranty and isn't rooted. Is there any way to back up her apps and settings without rooting? If not what's the closest you can get?

It's on 4.0.3 so I could use the signed temporary cwm recovery but the new phone will be on 4.0.4 and I'm wary of getting hit by the brick bug. Or will a no wipe nandroid restore be safe?
