Help Unusable after messing with Dpi value

Lurker
Hello everyone,

A friend of mine has installed some application named "ROMmng" I think, he changed Dpi (pixel density) to a higher value, then after rebooting his SGSII has become simply unusable.., he did a factory reset, but this didn't solve the problem, now he's stuck with his a phone on the "welcome screen" (the one in which we choose the language on the first boot), nothing is operational (clicking "start" button have no effect), and because of the new Dpi value the screen is not showing the whole content (please refer to the image attached to understand me)...

I flashed a new firmware "I9100XWMS1_I9100NEELS1_NEE" using Recovery Mode (can't use Download Mode and Odin because I can't activate USB Debugging since the device is unusable after boot), this didn't help, and the problem is always here.. seems like flashing a device doesn't renew the whole system..

If you have any ideas or solutions to share please do.
Thank you all in advance.

The image since I can't upload it in my first post.

Try to flash a new Kernel in Recoverymode from ext. SD. For example Philz - Kernel.
If it's done, flash a Custom - Rom.

You've tried to Restore the Phone with Samsung Kies ? If not, then try this first.

Thank you very much for your answer lecter1 ^^
I'll first try restoring the phone with Kies as you've suggested.
If this doesn't work.. does flashing a new kernel require root privileges ?
Thank you.

No Root required for flashing Philz. Put the zip on ext. SD and flash it from Stockrecovery.
Philz Kernel is rooted and includes Custom - Recovery. If it's working for you, you should be able to flash a Custom - Rom.

It's the option I'm going for, Kies doesn't work for this case because the phone isn't recognizable through USB connection.

That's right.
I read the Forumrules and I'm not sure, if it's allowed, to post Links for example to XDA-Site.
The Rules said : No competing Site.

Try to flash Philz, and I hope it will working good for you.

Sorry I didn't know ^^'

I'm downloading PhilZ-cwm6-XXMS1-OXA-4.53-signed that matches the firmware I flashed previously I9100XWMS1_I9100NEELS1_NEE (4.2.1) but it's mentionned that those kernels are for 4.0.4 ICS, hope there will be no compatibility issues..

I had to use the latest version of the kernel (v6.48.4) to be able to install this custom ROM cm-11-20140909-NIGHTLY-I9100 v4.4.4 Everything worked fine ^^ thank you very much for your help.

My question now is: can I re-flash the official stock firmware from Samsung ?
(I'm talking about the one I flashed in the first place I9100XWMS1_I9100NEELS1_NEE v4.2.1)

PS: The phone still undetectable on my computer using USB (not a driver issue because my S4 is connecting just fine).. so if I want to re-flash the stock firmware, is it okay to just do it from the recovery mode ?

Thank you again.

Great, that it's working. You can not flash Stock Firmware in Recovery. You had to use Odin. USB - Debugging enabled?

I've been struggling to find the USB Debugging option in Developers Options list.. As weird as it could seems the option is no where. however the phone isn't recognizable via USB even in "Computer Storage Mode".

If needed in the future I will try some apps like "USB Mode Changer". But for now my friend likes this ROM, so there is no need to revert into Samsung's official firmware ^^

I thank you again for all of your help, have a great evening ^^

No need to use USB Mode Changer.
For Developer-Options go to Settings > scroll down to About Phone or similar and open it. You will see the Buildnumber. Tap on Buildnumber 5 or 6 times.
A Toast-Message appears and tell you, that Developer-Options are enabled.
Then tap back and you will see the Dev.-Options.
Enable USB-Debugging.

BtW: If you use Odin, you has to boot your Phone in Downloadmode.
