Help Unusual (impossible) smart action behavior

I have something happening with a smart action I've set up that should not be possible.

I have one action that behaves properly; When the head phone jack in engaged and charging on AC, turn off WIFI and launch Pandora. This action has been set for about and month and a half and works flawlessly. I have this action because these are the typical conditions when I'm in my truck.

I have a second action I added about 10 days ago; When location is local movie theater, then set singer to silent. This works at the theater (or when I'm downtown and not in the truck due to proximity).

I have noticed on several occasions that while driving to work (passing the vacinity of the theater) that the movie theater rule will engage. This should not be possible as when I'm in the truck the WIFI is off, and the location based rules in smart action are triggered on WIFI locations. Further then I drive out of the area the rule will not disengage and ringer stays silent. I would understand if it were the case that the rule were on, WIFI got deactivated and the device no longer was aware that it was no longer near the theater. However, when I exit my truck at work and the WIFI truns back on, the theater still doesn't deactive (I'm now more than 25 miles from the trigger zone). Further even if I deactive the rule and reactivate it it triggers again, still beliving it's in the tigger zone. This all happens regardless of GPS status.

Any suggestions?

I'm not sure, but I believe location via WiFi still works even when Wifi is turned off.

For example, right now I have Wifi and GPS off, location services set to wifi only, and yet Maps is still able to show me where I am. If I uncheck "Use Wireless Networks" under location, Maps won't find my location.

So even with Wifi off, it's still picking up my location based on Wifi. Strange.

Smart Actions needs a lot more actions, imo. Would be nice, in this case for example, to be able to turn off "Use Wireless Networks" under location when the headphones are plugged in. Seems to me that would eliminate your problem. Sure, it may not be obvious that it is a needed action, but with any IF function, a lot of times certain variables aren't immediately obvious.

Smart Actions could be so much more fantastic if there was more options. Start with a Trigger when an app is launched, for example. I can't even believe there isn't one. If I launch a data intensive app, I want Cell Data to be turned off, just in case I lose my wifi connection.

Next time you're driving to work, uncheck "Use Wirless Networks" under location and see if it still triggers you "Movie Theatre" Smart Action.

Smart actions specifically uses Wifi for location. I can turn off wireless network location, but that is a coarse location only based on nearest cell tower and not supposed to be considered by smart actions. For instance you can not turn on or off wifi based on location with smart actions because location in smart actions is based on wifi being on.

The wireless network location should not factor in at all ... Unless the smart action behavior has changed recently (but I haven't yet received update 173 so I rather doubt it).

Unfortunately, 173 still acts the same. I am not sure why smart actions will not use GPS rather than WiFi. Having an unlimited data plan I have no reason to turn on WiFi...especially when the WiFi at work is HIGHLY filtered and you get busted for streaming music.

I've gotten 173 now and no improvement.

On another note. Smart actions won't use GPS by design. Probably because most people keep GPS off (to save battery) but wifi on (to save data). Of course you know what they say about assumptions. In any case they ought to make it an option, not a rule.
