Unusual Reboot

DanL

Newbie
I have 2 Droid Turbo's, 1 personal and 1 company issued for business.

Last night while sending a text my personal phone screen went black, the 3 lights at bottom of screen lit up and the phone went into a long reboot. About 2 hours later I noticed the same lights glowing on my work phone while not in use. I picked the phone up to check and it was going into a reboot. During reboot it made it to the Droid screen with bluish background and hung there for about 10 minutes before I forced a reboot with the power button.

Both phones worked fine after reboot. I did a complete partition cache wipe afterwards and no issues today. I checked and there were no system upgrades that I could see. Any ideas what was going on?

Do they have the same apps installed? Perhaps there is an issue with one of your apps that is causing spontaneous restarts?

When you say it did a "long reboot", did you see the Motorola logo that you usually see when you start the phone, of just the initial phone restart animation? (They are different things.) If it was just the latter, it may not have been a full reboot but a crash of Android.

One suggestion I have: if you are using the stock Android launcher, try installing the Google Now launcher from the Play Store and making it the default home, to rule out a problem with the launcher. On my Droid Maxx I have only had spontaneous reboots when running the stock launcher (which is different from the stock launcher on the Turbo, but still could be an issue.) You can always uninstall the Google Now launcher later on if you don't like it, although functionally it is almost exactly the same as the launcher that comes with the Turbo.

Not sure if I saw the Motorola logo. Both phones have most of the same apps. Both phones use Nova Launcher Prime. Have not added any apps in at least 2 weeks but several apps have updated recently and that could be the issue.

Thanks!

I'm using Nova Launcher Prime on the Turbo and have not encountered this problem. (Perhaps is happened when I was nowhere near it and was totally unawre that it had happened?)

I don't think Nova Launcher Prime had anything to do with it since that app has been on both phones since new.

This is a weird question, I know, but were the phones connected by wifi to an apple airport router at the time they restarted?

No, but they were both connected by WiFi. Netgear router, WNDR3800. I like to keep my residence an Apple free environment. ;)

So far this was a one time event.

I asked because there's a reported issue with people having their Turbo spontaneous reboot when they connect to airport routers. Weird. I haven't seen the same for other routers, though.

My wife and I have the same phone, droid turbo. Mine did what I thought was a reboot several times over the course of a couple weeks after I got it. It would wake us up, and I could see the droid logo, like it was turning on. Wife's phone has never done this. Mine hasn't done it for a while now. Come to think of it, it was the time that our phone numbers were being transferred from another Carrier.
Verizon did have trouble during that time frame with the transfer making me think that was the cause since it hasn't happened since.
