unwanted widgets placed by other apps

I installed Video Maker Pro by Halbert from the Google Play Store. I didn't notice a widget called "apps" until I uninstalled Video Maker. Now there is a widget on my desktop titled apps. I clicked on it to see what it was and it gave me a screen that it was provided by video maker. There isn't anything in my phone under apps where I can uninstall it. I checked to see if it was running or cached and its not. So I decided to go to MetroWEB and read about it.
When I clicked on my MetroWEB widget I was taken to the app store associated with the widget. This thing made itself my default browser also.

I can delete the widget but that doesn't insure that its garbage is removed from my phone. How can I get it and all its associated files off my phone?

How are apps able to do that when I wasn't asked before it was placed and I didn't click on any add links when I was using the app?

What app or program can I install on my phone that will block all apps from doing this again and also block any instant downloads from apps and MetoWEB?

Also, another app that appears to be preloaded on my phone is share world, its not in list of apps but its a widget on my phone from when I bought my phone. There's not a way to force stop it but it runs in the background on my phone. Do I need this app and why can't I control apps on my phone. Its MY phone, I paid for it. I want more control over these types of intrusions.

HELP???
P.S. My daughter has the Galaxy S3 and after she updated her phone, the same ones showed up on her phone. However, I didn't do any upates.

You're right, this Video Maker app has placed a shortcut (not a widget IMO) on your screen and replaced the default web site on your browser.
It is aggressive advertising, pushed by ad networks like AirPush, Leadbolt etc. and caused by this app in question.

But you've uninstalled this app, so you'd move this shortcut in the trash can and re-setup your browser ... there is no need to worry :)

This thread could give you more info ...
Push Advertising

This other app Share World that you can't find in Setting, Apps, All ... you might try to find it with ES File Explorer's app manager option. This app manager is able to find "hidden" apps.
When you've found this app in question you'd disable it, but it depents of your Android version.
