Root Up to date info to root droid with mac

Hello all. Im new here and recently have become interested in rooting my phone. I own a newer mac book pro. Ive been searching for an up to date way to do this with my computer but everything Im finding is from sometime last year. Im not very knowledgeable about everything to do to get all this done but Im willing to learn. Do I need to get a windows partition or am I able to do all of this from my mac os? Help?! :)

Welcome,

You will need a windows partition/emulator to the best of my knowlege the mac can't natively root the droid with the various methods available.

As for the year old methods they should still work (ie. Rsd and the rageagainstthecage exploit) when run on windows or linux if your familiar with it. Z4Root does not work on the droid1.

Hope this helps and please ask any questions you might have. Someone is always willing to help here.

Thank you so much. Im just going to read up a ton and get familiar with all of this stuff. I really dont want to screw my phone up. I love the original droid, but Im just tired of it being so slow.

Definitely read the sticky at the top of this forum. (Droid-All things root that is).

It has everything you ever wanted to know about rooting and romming the droid but were afraid to ask. :D

You can't screw up your phone. That's one thing that the original Droid is almost unique in; can't be bricked, unless you abort RSD Lite while it flashes, and even that isn't definite. Anything else can be solved by reflashing with RSD Lite. But, as stated, you'll need Windows for that (either Parallels or Boot Camp, or borrow a friend's computer), or under Linux you can use the sbf_flash utility as a replacement for RSD Lite. It actually works BETTER than RSD Lite. I use sbf_flash exclusively because RSD Lite likes to b***h and moan about everything.

I used my MBP for root as well. I installed Windows using Boot Camp and followed the directions as listed. Worked fine. You would probably do it faster if you just used a Windows machine from someone else if you don't plan on using Windows through Boot Camp ever again.

I know I uninstalled Win7 a few months ago because I had not used it in close to a year, other than to root my phone.

Off topic, but I have a Mac and used to dual boot, but also uninstalled Win7 last year. I like to see people using Mac OS, but not iPhone.
