Update has been released this morning for unbranded phones.
I have just installed, no obvious us difference as yet. Hope the battery improves.

I've got an unbranded One X, using T-mobile, no update here yet. Has the update improve the issues of using multi task and pressing home button which sometimes slows down the phone?

So far so good, eveything is smooth and not had sense reloading (yet)

Mulitask seems ok but I did not have a problem before.

I'm new to Android so how do we know when there is an update for our phone and how do we go about installing it? Will it come up as a notification on the phone?

Settings - About (bottom of list) - software updates - check now.

Make sure you have enough charge and some are reporting issues with the USB cable pugged in.

You will get a pop-up notification telling you it is available and ask you if you want to download/install it now or later... Notifications are sent out in progressive batches (ever wider circles/greater numbers, however you want to look at it), and chosen randomly based on your IMEI number (we think).

If everyone installs a Logcat app (like the free one linked to here) prior to receiving the notification, they can post the system log surrounding the notification, and we can grab the url to the update from it and then everyone (with that version- must be the same baseband/radio firmware, so must be either the same unlocked international one or carrier-specific one) can download the update without waiting for the notification.

The radios & baseband might not be that important for this (depending on if the update affects that code or not I suppose), but it has caused minor headaches in the past. So just as a cautionary statement, try to make sure you download the version for your device by waiting for either:
  1. your notification , or ,
  2. someone with your same carrier/region-specific model to post the url they received

If on a carrier/region-specific version. Given some of the hassle Paul O'Brien had over on Modaco with the chinese(?) version of this update, it does seem like there will be regional tweaks in the firmwares...

I'm in Norway and was prompted to update. # 1.28.401.9 now. I never had any issues with mine aside from a few loading screens so I'm not sure what to expect.

Thanks to XDA poster "xmoo"

THIS IS FOR THE UNLOCKED (Non-Carrier-Specific) INTERNATIONAL (European Released) ONE X ONLY!

Here is the download link :
http://fotadl.htc.com/OTA_ENDEAVOR_...1.26.401.2_release_256505w0tk6eiq8g74y4vb.zip

and here is the changelog as noticed by the poster:

Builddate 14 april 2012
New HBOOT 0.94
New RADIO 1.1204.103.14
Force GPU still not working
Sense Calander widget crashing fixed
HTC Calander double dates has been fixed
EA Games app not included
Speed improvement
HTC Sense not crashing anymore
Screen glitches are gone
Playing Tegra3 optimized games feels better now, have not had any lag yet
No 3.x kernell :(
HTC Gallary playback goes smoother
NvCPLSvc.apk not fixed :S
ICS detection improved, dots removes in Youtube app
Beats audio improved, no more skipping
Non-Sense widget scrolling is now smooth
Live Wallpaper pausing while going to other pages is still pressent
HTC Teeter running smooth now
Still no USB OTG

A couple of points here that I find interesting,
  • The OTA file is not hosted by Google; suggesting that it is all proprietary fixes (all adjustments to Sense/"Rosie" not Android)
  • Note the version numbers in the links; this update is only for devices that are currently on software build 1.26.401.2 and brings them to 1.28.401.9
  • Notice the inclusion of "Europe" in that url; these updates will definitely be regional then...

Remember, this is for those with unlocked international (and sold from Europe apparently) One X s, I can't stress that enough...
EDIT:
Here is a list of CIDs (pulled from a txt file contained in the update itself) of which device CIDs this is relevant to:
cidnum: HTC__001
cidnum: HTC__E11
cidnum: HTC__203
cidnum: HTC__Y13
cidnum: HTC__102
cidnum: HTC__405
cidnum: HTC__304
cidnum: HTC__032
cidnum: HTC__J15
cidnum: HTC__A07
cidnum: HTC__016
cidnum: HTC__M27

Check your CID by (must have/be comfortable with/willing to have & learn ADB & Fastboot):

I know it is for the Sensation, but the commands and steps are the same

Just been trying a few things on mine since updating & it seems to move between apps, browsing the web etc more smoothly & a little quicker.
Just confirmed the phone is quicker too in AnTuTu benchmark,
yesterday i was getting a score of 10022 now its 11219

I just installed and ran AnTuTu and got a score of 11885, do I need to turn anything on/off to get an accurate measurement?
The only difference for me so far is that I have not had any "loading" screens yet. I never noticed the live wallpaper pause until I tried it today but mine does that too. This phone makes my tablet look really bad...

Yeah, mine wouldn't reboot with the USB plugged in, even though it was an AC charger not a PC. Showed an icon that I couldn't work out for a while, but when I did as soon as I took the cable out it completed OK.

It does say remove charger before updating.

Am I the only one amused by "Do not remove the battery or storage card during the upgrade"; sure I do understand this is bog standard still .....

Well, here goes the update ... *crosses fingers*

okay, it feels a wee bit snappier when calling the 'recent app' screen, other than that all seems well and same.

Thanks to HTC for sorting out quite a few minor niggles that seemed to be upsetting people. My phone is a lot better now but it was fantastic anyway
