Help Update by wifi only

Very new to Andriod and smartphones.

Is there any way of ensuring updates and larger downloads can only occur whilst in sight of Wifi or even my Router.

In play, go to setting. In there there is an option to auto-update apps on WiFi only. This will save your data usage when you are not connected to your router.

Yes,When you start a download from a site,Your phone should ask you if you want to download this file on wifi only,Choose yes and your set.
As for Google Play Store and OS apps,Open play store app on your phone and go to the play store app settings and set to update on wifi only.
And your done.

Definitely a good policy to only download large files over WiFi...helps maintain integrity of the file and less chance of a bad download. I've had some bad zips etc downloading over 3G/4G...

As for Android system upgrades (like the upcoming Lollipop upgrade) it should ask you if you want to download, so you can connect to WiFi first.
