Root Update Fail

Earwig225

Daily my phone tells me there is an update. The phone downloads the update and then when it goes to install the update, the update fails. This has been going on for a couple times a day for the past week.

Rooted
Stock ICS Rom
Android 4.0.4

Any ideas? I have frozen some of the unwanted apps.
I saw a link a few months ago that stopped the phone from updating, but I can't seem to find it now.

Thanks!

When you rooted, did you install CWM as well?

You should never be able to take a OTA as long as you have CWM installed. I seem to recall someone saying that the pwnage tool can restore the stock recovery, then you can take the OTA.

The pwnage tool can NOT restore stock recovery on ICS. You have too many files that get replaced besides just recovery. If you really want to take the V8 update, connect your phone to your PC and grab the LG Update tool and just run that. It is the equivalent of .cab flashing, but without the extra work. You will lose root, but you should have everything else still in place.

Ah thanks I thought I had read someone saying it could. I've personally never had a need to try it. Good to know it can't.

I thought I had read that I shouldn't run CWM if I am rooted on ICS. if I can run it and it will fix my problem then where is the best place to get it?

Read two parts up where neph said it won't.

so, any ideas how to fix the problem then? I would hate to have to unroot my phone and start all over.

If you don't want the update, run the pwnage tool to unlock the bootloader (if you haven't already) and install CWM. Supposedly that will block the OTA but does break Bluetooth.
If you want to stay on stock and take the update then do what Neph says, plug into a Computer and update then reroot.

Have you tried unfreezing the apps and installing it? From what I remember having apps frozen / uninstalled would interfere with the update in the past...
