Keep getting a popup msg saying android needs to clean up junk files or my phone will crash. Says I should click download button. Trust?

No don't trust it. It's spam. Clear data in your browser(s)
The button is more likely to be a malware downloader than anything useful, and is definitely not a legitimate system message.
