[update] new update available

330D

From My Cold Dead Hands
Just read on Phandroid that there is an update available for the shift. I can't link it from my phone, but you can force it by manually updating. If not they are going to start pushing it February 7.

Manually updated mine this AM. It is a BIG download, recommends using WIFI. Install was lengthy and several periods of apparent non activity (blank screen), however, just leave it alone and it will eventually finish. So far NO issues, but it is still early......

Be careful with this update, from what I've gathered it includes an updated hboot. (0.99.0000) This could potentially lock down the current root exploit we have. Someone is taking the update and is going to test the rooting process.

For non rooted users this is pretty big update

META-INF with what is presumably whatever
patch folder with a bunch of crap in /system (app, bin, customize, etc, fonts, framework, and lib)
new/replacement files in system (almost all of it appears to be Smith device management)
new iproute tables (rt_tables)

... and a firmware.zip which contains the following images:
boot
hboot (0.99.0000)
radio
rcdata_2.97
recovery
tp_atmel224_20aa
tp_atmelc12_20aa
tp_SPY_SYN3KT0103
wimax-20110318-XC-R4[etc]

Edit: looks like if you take this update, it will be unlockable through htcdev.com (which I wouldn't recommend as it will void your warranty and they will know... no fooling them with a simple ruu). Still can't confirm if the old root method will work, but its not looking good...

Really? I don't see the Shift on that list. Even the original EVO isn't listed. Please advise where you see the Shift on htcdev.com since I'd take that route in a heartbeat?

This is not my phone but it's been confirmed by another user

Oh don't worry, the bootloader unlock works.

Obviously, taking this update makes you lose root, but I can confirm personally that 1) The bootloader unlock procedure at htcdev is now supported on our phones - fastboot get_oem_identifier (or whatever that command is) pulls a token now and the process completes successfully; and 2) 2.77.651.3 is rootable using the existing 2.3 methods and I just flashed back to 2.76.651.6 without any trouble whatsoever by re-flashing misc.img.

By rooting, misc-ing, and downgrading, HBOOT is returned to 0.98.0001.
.

Keep in mind, this will void your warranty and it's not the same as achieving s-off.

Just recieved the " update" this morn. As mentioned earlier it's a " Big DL." Im wondering if this update address's the " HTC/ loading screen issues?

I don't know about the loading screen issue because I use Go Launcher, but I know this update updates the Market, if you hadn't manually updated it before.

I can't update anything right now - shows I have voicemail updates, application updates, etc... but they won't install because there is insufficient internal storage space available.

I have moved every single app to the SD card that will allow, uninstalled all but a couple of essential non SD apps, deleted all the data I can find from browser, facebook, etc... can only come up with about 30 MB of internal storage space which apparantly isn't enough.

Very frustrating.

Mine downloaded an is installing now... doubt it fixes anything important as they don't give a shit about Shift users.

Yup, haven't noticed any changes.

Look at your Android version, you may see a slight change there (updated to 2.3.4 from 2.3.3)

Also included was a radio update and new touchscreen firmware. These are also supposed to help battery life.

I'm not running the stock HTC/Sprint ROM but after flashing the update I have noticed a slight increase in data speeds and also in battery life.

mine should have been through wi fi.. thats what i have on... all it shows right now is the circle arrows over a phone.. im really starting to hate this phone.. not to mention the once in a while my touch screen doesnt work..

Ok, since it's been over a month. I've noticed my battery life, has deffently been noticeably improved.
