Newbie
Hello,

I am a new member of this forum and I need help about my Desire HD. I have bought an Orange Desire HD and I want to update my DHD to 2.3. But I dont want the orange soft integration on my DHD. I want the system as a like normal unbranded DHD. so is there any way to update my DHD to 2.3 with HTC sense ui? If its need to root my phone then I will do it. But please help me to update DHD to 2.3 with HTC sense ui. I know that I can update the DHD to 2.3 with custom ROM. On that case i will not be able to use the HTC sense ui. So how to update DHD to 2.3 with HTC sense ui. Please help me with the procedure.
thnx and sorry for my english.

Welcome to the forums! :)

It is possible, it's a potentially simple procedure and a collection of all the guides for doing so can be found here. There are also plenty of ROMS out there that use the Sense UI.

Could you tell me what software version you are running?

Settings -> About Phone -> Software Information -> Software Number.

No need to apologise about the English either. ;)

Welcome to the forum!

See the following post - http://androidforums.com/desire-hd-all-things-root/354749-how-root-install-custom-rom-desire-hd.html

This will explain how to root and then install custom firware (which will not have the Orange rubbish on it (that's what I did)! :)

EDIT - you beat me to it again El P!! ;)

Thank you very much for replying. Currently i am running Android 2.2.1 and my Software number is 1.84.61.2

You'd need to follow the guides in El P's thread (we both linked) - this explains the procedure in detail. If your phone is branded (has an operator logo when you turn it on), then you'll need a goldcard... links to all of this are in the thread we linked!

If you get stuck, give us a shout!! :D

yes my handset is a branded handset. Now I am trying to follow the procedure. Thnx.
And if i get stuck then I will not forget to shout.. :D

Before continuing the process I want to know that can I use the HTC sense UI with this custom ROM or my DHD will be the normal android sense ui? Because I want the HTC sense ui.

There are many ROM's that use the Sense (or very similar to sense) UI... it depends which one you are referring to

EDIT - a quick google search - I think that Android Revolution HD is the closest to stock (Sense)

Sorry for asking questions again and again. I am downloading the file with my slow internet connection and mean time i want to know that is it enough to just DEBRAND my DHD? Is debranding by downgrading to 1.32 will remove all of Orange stuff from my DHD? Because if debranding removes the Orange apps then i dont need to root the phone. please share ur opinion.. thnx :)

If you downgrade to a stock HTC ROM (this is the downgrade to 1.32), then it removes the Orange bloatware and the Orange splash screen you get when you turn the phone on.

This is NOT rooting, but debranding. You should then be able to get the 2.3.X update from HTC - I do not know if you will be able to get OTA updates, as the IMEI number for your phone will remain the same (and HTC will probably have this recorded as being an Orange branded phone).

Don't worry about asking questions, it's not a problem.

You can downgrade and it will remove all the Orange apps. Provided you don't perma root with Visionary, you should be able to perform an OTA update and get the official 2.3.3 debranded ROM (provided it's available in your country).

Edit- Sniped by D-U-R-X....

To comment on something he mentioned though, IMEI doesn't matter with regards to OTA updates. Both HTC and Orange thought I was branded before the UK 2.3.3 rollout, but I received the update about 5 mins after they made it available.

Wasn't sure if you'd get the unbranded OTA update, unless you got Radio S-Off and set CID as HTC-001 (then the phone would be completely unbranded)... otherwise, it may think that the phone is still Orange branded and, as it's not got all their bloatware rubbish on, OTA updates might not work!?!?

Was your CID HTC-001 though or an Orange CID?

it looks like I am a looser. I have tried 3 times but its not working for me. Dont know where I was wrong.. :(

Which part is not working? As your phone is Orange branded, you need to create a goldcard first, before you downgrade to 1.32

I have already created goldcard but when I reboot my phone for update then the bootloader appears but nothing happened. There was no option like update in the bootloader. I have tried 3 times. :(

Have you followed the links to downgrade (as per El P's thread - http://androidforums.com/desire-hd-all-things-root/354749-how-root-install-custom-rom-desire-hd.html)?

You have to downgrade to 1.32 (unbranded stock HTC ROM) first. From there, you should be able to get an upgrade - you may have to download it and put it on the root of your SD card...

yes I have followed the procedure. But its not working for me. I am trying to redo all the steps again and after that i will try again.

Just to clarify, you have done the following:

Created the GoldCard
Copied the PD98IMG.zip (not unzipped it, but as you downloaded it) on to the root of your SD card (not in to a folder of it's own)
Done all CMD lines as per the linked tutorials
Rebooted your phone (while holding the volume down button

At this point, what does it say? Is it only going in to the bootloader or is it not going anywhere?

Never thought about it like that. From the conversation I had with one of the Orange 3rd line guys, he reckoned it was only the Software number which was important?

Reason I mention CID as HTC-001 was that is the HTC carrier ID... that's why I had to create a goldcard... my CID would have been Orange (something like ORANGE-001).

That's where it says CID Error if you try to downgrade to HTC software without a goldcard (only know that, as I had this error come back to me on my first go!!) :o

Iths showing just 5 option on bootloader
1. Fastboot
2. Recovery
3. Factory Reset
4. Simlock
5.Image crc

what should I do now?
