Help Update phone without service

I've got an old GS3 which I've been using as a glorified MP3 player. It no longer has cellular service. Is there any way I can install the latest version of Android on it? Whenever I go to update it through the settings, it says "software update is temporarily unavailable "

You could probably go to Sammobile.com and find the latest firmware to flash to your device via ODIN

I get app updates from Google Play over WiFi even though I do not currently have a working call or data plan. I had one mind you, I just fell a little behind in payments.

The S3 won't officially get Lollipop, so there won't be anything for it in Sammobile or Kies. You can try getting a custom ROM though.

For the US version with 2GB RAM. The international 1GB RAM version got stuck on JB.
