Update says 2.3.15 which is Android 2.2

For anyone else that gets confused - The update came down only mentioning 2.3.15. When it finished, in 'About Phone', it says System version: 2.3.15 and farther down, Android: 2.2

I don't know why Motorola/Verizon decided to call their update 2.3.15.

The OS itself is Android 2.2. There's no such thing as Android 2.3.

Yeah, 2.3.15 is Motorola's build number, while the Android version is of course, still 2.2.

Curious naming decision, for sure.

Well, there has to be version tracking for Motorola's internal builds of the product. They can't just call it "2.2" and expect all of their developers/support personnel/end users receiving incremental upgrades to have all of that versioning hidden from them.

Probably a little unfortunate that the version numbers are so close to 2.2 - might have done better to start it with 2.2 and build their sub-versions off that, but it's surprising how hard it is to change how you version your products once you've started and implemented a versioning system. I'm guessing they started with Version <something> and have just been incrementing ever since without a whole lot of choice in how it's handled.
