Help Update to Froyo 2.2 gone wrong!!!

Hi,
I'm hoping someone can help me. I've just tried to update my phone from eclair to froyo using Kies. Only when I've turned the phone off & on again it has freezes on the start-up screen, displaying "GT-i5801 Samsung". Does anyone know how to resolve this. Is there a recovery mode that can be used to start the phone?

Yes there is a recovery mode in Kies.

It is found in 'Tools' - 'Emergency Firmware Recovery'

It only works if Kies detects a 'faulty' update - so it should work for you.

In my experience it is always best to prepare your phone for updating by doing a 'clean' installation.

***Backup any files and contacts before hand to your PC***

1 - Remove or format external SD card and remove SIM card

2 - Perform a Factory Reset

3 - When updating DO NOT unplug phone until it has fully restarted - this may take a short while i.e it displays the main Home Screen

4- Then perform another Factory Reset - (it does NOT remove the update)

5 - Refit SD and SIM

6 - Then turn the phone off and on a few times - so it can sort itself out

This is the long-winded way of doing it as it removes Apps etc but it should ensure that you get no gliches.

I have been told that old data on the internal memory can cause the update to fail.

Hope this helps

If recovery does not work then it will need reflashing by Samsung or your mobile provider !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You can also try a soft reset (reboot) by turning the phone on and then pressing and holding down the on/off button for about 20 seconds - the phone should then restart.

Unfortunately KIES didn't recognise a fault. In the end I had toreflash the device. It wasn't as complicated as I'd thought. Phones upgraded to 2.2, haven't found any bugs yet but haven't used it in anger!

Thanks for the posts.
