My whatsapp is installed from https://www.whatsapp.com/android/

How to update whatsapp installed from https://www.whatsapp.com/android/ ?

I saw this https://faq.whatsapp.com/486821732268633/?locale=en_US and it only teaches how to update whatsapp installed from google playstore.

not if you installed via apk. if you download thru the play store, you can update whatsapp thru there.

If I install newer version of the app in apk format, does the installation process overwrite the old whatsapp (like a new install) or only install updates to the old whatsapp?
Would I need to do the input sms code and restore whatsapp backup process again?

I've never updated WhatsApp via a third-party APK install, but I have other apps that I maintain that way and with them installing the new APK is no different from updating via the Play Store, or F-Droid (where you won't find WhatsApp!) or anywhere else: it simply replaces the old version and nothing else changes.

If I want to install whatsapp from playstore, how can I do it without reactivate whatsapp (enter sms code) and without restore whatsapp backup? (I want to change from whatsapp apk to whatsapp in playstore, all settings and other stuff unchanged)

I am thinking install from playstore seems better as it can auto update.
