HI,
I am from Germany.
I am pretty new to the Android OS environment.
Galaxy S is my first.
KIES tells me that the JF3 version of the firmware is the latest.
So I have a doubt regarding updates for firmware.
which is the official latest firmware for galaxy S

did you have to root your device to update firmware to JM1?

Nope, phone is in vanilla unrooted form.

According to what I've read if you are on a contract, some of the networks will not allow the update of firmware to JM1. Would this apply to you?

Nope, i am not using a contract.
Mine is an unlocked version which i had purchased through amazon.de
i mean does KIES check and provide different version of firmware updates based on your contract provider?

firmware availability depends on the region you are living in. Most likely it's not available in Germany yet.
