Root Updated rooted Hero, red triangle can't do anything

Hello

I have a slight problem with my rooted Hero. First of all I probably should never have rooted it, since my technical skills are not sufficient for these problems, but here we go anyway!

As far as I know my phone was rooted, since I had clockworkmod installed, along with Superuser. I did flash a custom rom on it last summer, but decided to go back to original rom, all nice and dandy up until last night, when smart me decided to check for new system updates for it through the normal "about phone-> check for system updates"

Phone rebooted, and showed the "Hero" logo for a good 3-4 hours.

So my question is, what can I do now? I have no way of acessing my phone, except the SDcard through my PC.

Pull the battery, reboot into recovery (home+power on), and reflash the custom ROM (if it's still on the sdcard).

Or redownload the ROm onto the SDcard via PC if it's not there any more.

Or try a different ROM (hero development has slowed down, but things have still moved on quite a bit since last summer).
