And everything works perfectly! Ok i had to do a factory reset after the update (after backing up my contacts), but now it works faster, is more beautiful and of course Flash player is installed. A lot of little neat things were added as well. So i am happy and you should be too! Go update through KIES! Froyo should be there!

Android 2.2 Froyo on Galaxy S in More Markets - Softpedia

Anyone else see this?

I am at work, but I guess this is what you are talking about, right? They say in the comments that the US update is listed, but nothing about trying it out.

I live in The Netherlands and yesterday i downloaded KIES (last updated 15 october). I plugged in my phone and it said "new firmware update". After the update and factory reset, i checked my phone status: Android version 2.2 build number: Froyo.

So obviously, at least in europe, froyo is up and running..

Cool.. And according to that article, it is supposed to be available for US.. uh... last night?... Whoops, oh well.

We should be used to being left behind.. How long was the rest of the world on 3g before the US got it?

I bought my Samsung Galaxy-S "captivate" -- the AT&T variant -- from a third party (sing-song) He bought an iPhone (/sing-song). It is running "v2.1-update" or similar. I am in Austin, TX USA (well, some think Texas is USA).

What do I need to do to do this Froyo update dance?
If I don't use the phone's built-in "software update" does the Froyo dance require that I root my phone? Is there something that I download, move to the phone storage, and launch? Do I need some utilities or helper apps before the download and launch?

Confused,

SamsungMobile.com still does not have a US support area, but the UK version tells us to use Kies (or in our case Kies mini). Hooked it up and no update yet. I imaging that the information was wrong.

I can't even get my version of KIES to recognize my Epic. When I plug it in, it gives me an error and tells me to restart in "Studio PC Mode" or something. I have no clue how to do that. Why not just release it OTA?

Obviously it is a very hard update to get out to all the slightly different SGS's.

Seriously how hard can it be?

Pete

Did you go to Settings->Applications->USB settings-> Kies and allow developer mode?

I heard the updates have spread to India now. Samsung doing the staggered approach thing, probably to make sure it all goes smoothly before approving more regions.

I can't wait for mine. South East Asian edition, ROM JF4.
