Updates wipe settings

I have done 3 updates to my ASUS Memo Pad: upgrade to 4.2 and two Asus updates. Every update resets the pad back to factory, wiping out any screen personalizations. All apps are available if I press the apps button, so no data is lost, just the page organizations. It's happened EVERY update.

This can't be normal . . . how do I prevent this or recover?

You can root and back up your settings using Titanium Back-Up
